More reflections on taking it slow & getting some useful unbiased help
Thursday's Thousandth Thought (TTT #26)
I shared last week that I was taking some kind of break when it came to language learning. Not a complete break from it but more or less from structured learning.
In reality, I had written that post during the weekend and changed rooms two days later, getting access for the first time in a year and a half to a desk next to my collection of textbooks filled with only those I’m not yet “done” with.1 I’m writing this part while looking at them, wondering in awe which one will sweep me off my feet. Will it be the 初心者に優しい俳句の練習帳 (Haiku Practice Book Friendly for Beginners)? The 中国語レター・Eメール (Chinese Letters & Emails)? Or simply the Assimil German book to be finished once and for all?
I don’t know but I’m sure one will before the end of the month. It’s just how it usually is.
Or will I control my urges? Who knows, this could be the exception that confirms the rule.
In fact, I think it’s quite likely I won’t dive head-first into one of those for one simple reason I mentioned in last week’s newsletter: I”m making sure I don’t burn out.
And this was important for one big reason I hinted at.
