I recently accomplished something I didn’t really think I could: read 119 pages in Korean in 9 days. The self-confidence this has brought me is out of this world.

You see, I never read much in Korean. After 13 years of study of Korean, I’ve only read 2 novels so far (both of which took at least 5 months to read despite being about 200 pages). The rest of my reading experience is limited to messages, video game text, and subtitles.

This surprise got me thinking about my study lifestyle.

You see, for the past few years, I’ve focused on making sure I always do a little in my languages. Never to do a lot.

While I stand by this choice overall—it’s more important to keep going little by little than to go strong and stop for a while—I now realize both are needed.

I often talk about the importance of small habits so I thought today I’d talk about why we shouldn’t rely exclusively on them.

A crucial distinction to make
