New Year, New Endeavors!
Hey everybody,
Happy New Year! I hope you’ve spent some amazing holidays!
Mine started off brighter than ever with a wedding but ended with catching Covid.
I spent most of the first week of the year stuck in bed. My first thought was to think about how unlucky I was but it provided me a much-needed rest free of guilt for not doing anything.
Catching Covid made me realize no matter how careful we are, some things are out of our control.
Does that mean we should give up trying to have control over our lives?
Hell no! 💪
Learning is what gives us control. Learning is what makes life exciting. Learning is discovering.
I fell in love with learning languages over a decade ago. Since then, that love has spread to many other areas. I’ve become a more curious person. I’ve learned to meditate, write, and make origami. I’ve learned about Japanese history, how the brain works, and even the basics of coding.
This year I want to expand further.
I’ll focus on learning Thai 🇹🇭 to a comfortable conversational level. I’ll learn copywriting. And I also plan on learning podcasting.
That should keep me busy enough!
More importantly though.
What are YOU learning this year? Is there some new exotic language you want to explore?
Have you already decided? Maybe even already given up? Or are you on fire, rocking that new skill?
My main goal this year is to help you learn better than you ever dreamed of. Most of the time, I’ll focus on languages because, hey, that’s where I excel, right?
But because I also don’t want you to miss out on learning amazing other skills, I’ve partnered with three master skill learners: Danny Forest, Eva Keiffenheim, and Nicole Cleckley.
We’re trying to build a program to help you learn how to learn and actively practice one skill of your choice.
Since we want to make the best program for you, we figured the best way to make the right program would be to ask you directly.
We’ve created a short survey to hear from you.
There are still over 350 days left this year. That’s hundreds of thousands of minutes we could learn something. Just thinking about it brings a smile to my face.
It psyches me up even! 🤩
If that doesn’t excite you, think back on the last skill you decided to learn.
Maybe you were a damn awful cook and now make incredible homemade bolognese sauce. Maybe you couldn’t ski and now just finished a trip sliding through the trees. Maybe you were afraid of investing and now have a large portfolio.
Your life changes with each skill you learn.
A new year means new possibilities to change your life.
And I hope I can join you closer than ever this year on this journey. If that sounds interesting to you too, help me help you and fill out the survey 😉
On that note, it’s time for me to go use all that excitement writing this brought me.
For this year, our usual bullet point newsletter will be on Tuesdays so see you tomorrow again!
Cheers to a 2022 full of wonders,
Mathias
