Hi everybody,
I hope your week was amazing!
I'm still glad to announce my ebook is finally up and ready so I'm letting you know again! You can download the ebook by clicking on this link. For those who already read it, don't hesitate to reach out if you have any question or want to dig into a specific topic.
Alright, let's dive right in!
Each week, I share 7 things that could be useful to your learning odyssey. I hope they can help you improve your journey, tickle your curiosity, and inspire you to keep exploring.
One video: How learning 8+ languages changed my life | My polyglot story — By Lindie Botes
In this long presentation, Lindie went over her life with languages and get amazing tips for learning languages. I definitely recommend watching it all as it'll help you find not only those tips, but will also motivate you to learn even more. I know I was excited after watching it!
One article I read: Language Learning for the Socially Anxious — By Benya Clark
In this very interesting article, Benya shared his struggles with Hebrew as a socially anxious person and how Stephen Krashen's concept of compelling comprehensible input. It's a method that's worked for countless people and I'd really advise you to try it if you never have!
One article I wrote: 3 Simple Ways to Revive Your Language-Learning Journey
I've stopped learning each of my languages at one point or another. There's nothing shameful in taking a break. It can be hard to get back to it though. In this piece, I shared three methods that have worked well for me. Hopefully, they'll help you too if you've been on a break.
One podcast episode: Coffee Break Languages
This week, instead of sharing a podcast episode, I'm sharing a whole collection! Coffee Break Languages have podcasts in French, Spanish, Italian, German, Chinese, Swedish, and English. They make you listen to a text or conversation and then work through it in detail. It's simple and well-explained so perfect to listen to while on the go
One tool to try: Translated Webtoons (Website)
If you enjoy comics, you've probably heard about Webtoons. This Korean trend has spread these past years and now communities are translating many Webtoons in dozens of languages. Webtoons are easy to read and very entertaining so definitely worth a try to start reading in the language.
One quote to ponder: “Language exerts hidden power, like a moon on the tides.” ― Rita Mae Brown
One biweekly challenge for the weeks ahead: Tweet in your target language(s)
I've chosen to change the challenge to a biweekly one from now on. After over 5 months of doing weekly challenges, I realize that's too much novelty and doesn't let us appreciate each challenge and dig deeper into them either. Sometimes, life takes over and you also have a "low week" so having another available helps.
Last week's challenge was already to tweet in our target language. I did it on my second Twitter account but then had to take care of my family and lost forgot to do it. I'm back today though and will try to attach this to another habit I have so I can stay consistent.
Let me know how it went for you by sending me a mail at barra.mathias@gmail.com!
As always, thanks for reading!
